Houtouwan is an abandoned fishing village on tiny Shengsi Island, about 40 miles off the coast of Shanghai. Once a thriving settlement of 2000 fisherman, it was nearly deserted in the 1990s as inhabitants began migrating to the mainland in search of a more prosperous life.

INSTAGRAMMERS FOR NEPAL EXHIBITION

On April 25, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal, killing more than 8000 people and injuring thousands of others. Realising the outstanding relief efforts, I was inspired to make a difference with the power of social media and photography. In June 2015, I organised a weekend Instagram-driven fundraising exhibition, featuring photos taken in Nepal by 18 Instagrammers from around the world. With just three weeks of preparation time, the exhibition raised a total of $85K HKD for Nepal Youth Foundation. Read about the background here on SCMP.
